We're starting to see quite a bit of crossover around here now that we're having more Fast Track mud racing events. I had 4 sand rails in my Open Paddles class at my last event & they really added a lot to the show. While I hope these two sports remain "unique", I think a lot of opportunity for the racer exists if you're willing to try something a little different.

I was one of the cars that was at your race. It was a good time and the track was definitely hard hookin'. I just need a few more cubic inches to compete! lol I would hope in the years' to come that we could have a little more cross-over.

so let me get this right if you run a 4x4 set up theres no money to win,we are just for show so im guessing theres no charge to get in to race and your not chargeing spectators,,,,,,,,

No, I don't think that is the case this year. This is a special weekend they are having at West Michigan Sand Dragway. They will be having their regular race but 2 classes will be the highlight.

The first highlight class will be the Pro Mod Truck class. This is for Truck, Jeep, etc, "appearing" vehicles that can run 4.49 or faster in 300 feet. You have to qualify for that class by running 4.49 or faster. The truck can be 2WD, 4WD, center seater, Bud Body, etc. But it has to somewhat resemble a truck. I think as Terry put it a Class 3 type vehicle would be great. This class paid $1000 to win last year.

The 2nd highlighted class is the Fastest 4x4 shootout. The only rule is it must be 4x4 and pass WMSD safety tech. I think any chassis type, body type is welcome. Last year this was a late addition to the line-up and was invitation only, so there were only 3 vehicles participating. Thus, they ran for a trophy and bragging rights. This year, it is open to anybody wanting to participate. I would assume the payout will be pretty lucrative.

Quad Killer is doing most of the organizing for the event but I am one of the sponsors so I thought I would help clear up some confusion.

Here is a pretty good video from the 4x4 shootout. The 3 participants in the Fastest 4x4 are the Red bodied car with the screw blower, the blown White Ford Truck, and the blown turqoise colored Jeep bodied car. The winner was the red car - Josh Stephens from St. Louis, MO and he ran a 3.01 on one pass during the weekend.

Hope this works from National Sand Drag News:

Mike is right about it being lucrative
we'll make it interesting enough to get some of you
guys over there
the plan this year is to roll all the sponsors into both
classes instead of dividing them into 2
I have been slacking on the flyer but we should have the details
up soon
after all racers are last minute! Rolling Eyes

Yup, plus with you guys who do the dirt drags, you blur the line even further Laughing

But yeah, I know when they showed Gravelrama footage a year or so ago, I recognized some of the cars as mud racers. I actually sand dragged my pile ONCE, but it was a pretty pathetic showing, even for my old, slow POS. Embarassed Pizza cutter tires didn't do me any favors Laughing

Nah, I think all you guys were as quick as any of those big N/A motors, but the blowers may have been just a hair too much advantage. I've gotta say though that a really screamin' smallblock sure makes a pretty racket Cool

Hope I get to see you guys again soon!

It was definitely a blower track (wet and heavy). Screamin'? Hell, that was only ~8800rpm! LOL Razz

Even though we are going to have a busier schedule, I still think we're going to try to make a race of yours this year.

Ive run 300' in sand. It`s a whole different animal than running 200' and stopping in grass. The first thing I realized was its easier to stop in sand, but the extra 100' really gets the mph up there. If my work schedule allows I may have to run up there and race.

Around here all the sand drags are eliminations and 100% payback. EC4WDA stuff. Most are bracket races only also. If they run xxa class or whatever they call it and a blower car shows up, he races hisself.

The eliminations are great, but the way we are used to running I dont think my junk would hold together for that many passes in one day!

Go for it Chuck! Hopefully at least some Mudracers will show up. I've been wanting to go check it out. They say the track is real nice. I know from hanging out on sanddragcentral.com that everybody has a good time and a lot of fun in the pits. I really wanted to try and talk chad into going but... Well maybe next year? As fast as your car is you could lift early and still show'em mudracers can kick butt!!
