I am looking for suggestions on setting up steering on my bogger. It's a '78 F250 power steering gear box with no pump, the hose is looped. I like not taking HP from the motor, but am not sure this set up is a good idea. All is fine when it gets rolling, but it feels like I am going to break something when turning while still. Am I crazy by not using power assist to turn the 39.5 Boggers? Is there a problem using the power box as a manual? Is there a manual box that might be close to the same mount? At this point the motor cleaned the budget out and there isn't much time to go real radical. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks, Ed.

I would use the power steering, just underdrive the pump. That truck has a lot of weight on the front and with manual you will end up being like Harry Armstrong before you turn that thing fast enough without power.

Find (or make) a 3 1/2 or 4" crank pulley and you wont loose 5 hp.

Thanks for the input. I'll take your advice, just can't do the underdrive yet. Any idea how much HP a stock set up on a 460 will steal? It had a saginaw style pump, which I'll be putting back on again due to finances. Thanks again, Ed.
